Sandy Elaine Allen was given the status of being the world’s tallest woman in the world during her lifetime. She was an American resident and had a huge height of about 7′ 7¼ inches (232 cm).
She was born on June 18, 1955 in Chicago. She held the record of being the world’s tallest woman for 18 long years. At birth she had a normal height like any other new born.
No one would have imagined then that she’ll grow taller than any other woman in the world. Her abnormal height may be attributed to the fact that she had a tumor in her pituitary gland.
This caused her pituitary gland to release the HGH (Human Growth Hormone) at an uninhibited rate. And this made her grow taller at an alarming rate.
She had attained the height of six feet at the age of 10 years. She continued to grow taller with each passing year.However, to control any further growth in her height, she underwent a surgery when she was just 22 years of age.
If it were not for this surgery, Sandy Allen would have continued to grow taller and faced many medical complications associated with gigantism later in her life.It was on August 13, 2008 that she expired. She was just 53 years old.
